Tutorials for iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak using Absinthe (Windows)

This is step-by-step instructions on how to perform untethered jailbreak of iOS 5.1.1 firmware using Absinthe 2.0 for Windows.

This tutorial works for:

• iPad 3 (WiFi / CDMA / GSM)
• iPad 2 (WiFi / CDMA / GSM)
• iPad 1
• iPhone 4S
• iPhone 4 (GSM), iPhone 4 (CDMA)
• iPhone 3GS
• iPod Touch 4G
• iPod Touch 3G

Important information.

Please think first, before you do something.

If you have iPhone and need carrier unlock - do not update to Apple iOS 5.1.1 firmware, use RedSn0w to create a custom firmware to preserve modem version!!

Step One

Create a folder on your desktop (or any other folder on your computer) called Pwnage

Download the latest version of Absinthe 2.0 from here. Save it in the Pwnage folder.

Extract the zip archive into the same folder.

Step Two

Connect your device to the computer and launch iTunes.

Select your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch from the list of devices on the left. Create a backup by right-clicking on device name in Devices (iTunes left pane) and choosing Back Up.

If you are already on iOS 5.1.1 you can now skip to step three.

Download official firmware iOS 5.1.1 to Pwnage folder for your device from here. It is better to use Firefox, because some browsers (f.e., Safari) extract ipsw:

Open iTunes. Now hold down Option (Mac) or Shift (Windows) key and click the Restore button.

Navigate to the Pwnage folder and select the iOS 5.1.1 firmware ipsw. Click the Open button to continue.

iTunes will ask if you want to setup your device as a new device or restore from the backup. Choose  Set up a new iPhone.

Step Three

Once iTunes has finished updating your device to the desired firmware open the Pwnage/apsinthe-win-2.0 folder and double click the absinthe-win-2.0.exe.

This will extract the utility and resource files

This will create a new folder called absinthe-win-2.0.

Open it and run absinthe.exe. Use Run as administrator.

Step Four

Absinthe 2.0 will run. As prompted, connect your iDevice to the computer via USB. Make sure to remove any passcodes or VPN settings you've previously set.

Step Five

Click the Jailbreak button to begin

Step Six.

The application will take you through several steps to jailbreak including: beginning jailbreak, sending initial jailbreak data, sending final jailbreak data, waiting for reboot, and waiting for process to complete.

 

Step Seven.

You will be informed that the jailbreak is 'Done'.

You will see Cydia icon on your device.

Now your device is jailbroken and working.

Step Eight

If you want to restore your settings and data from backup. Run iTunes, right-click on iDevice name in Devices(iTunes left pane) and choose Restore from Back Up.

Step Nine

Run Cydia. Let it do all the necessary updates.

To have access to the root file system of your deice (via file managers like iFunBox or iPhone Explorer) install application called afc2add in Cydia.

Step Ten

Do not forget to change your default password if you've installed openssh.
